African Democratic Congress Announces 90-Day Membership Drive

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has embarked on a nationwide membership drive, initiating a 90-day mobilisation, revalidation, and registration exercise. This move was announced in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, outlining the party’s strategic plans for expansion and strengthening its grassroots base.

As part of its electoral process, the ADC has also announced provisional dates for its congresses and the election of delegates at the polling unit, ward, and local government levels. According to a circular issued by the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, these congresses are scheduled to take place between January 20-27, 2026, culminating in a Non-Elective National Convention in February 2026 in Abuja. This sequence of events is designed to ensure the party’s internal democratic processes are upheld, adhering to the provisions of its constitution.

The decision to undertake these activities follows a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held on November 27, 2025. The NWC’s conclusions underscore the party’s commitment to its constitutional obligations and its preparation for future electoral challenges. By revalidating and expanding its membership, the ADC aims to bolster its position within the political landscape, ensuring it remains a viable and competitive force.

The announcement marks a significant step in the ADC’s efforts to revitalize its structures and bolster its presence across the country. As political parties in Africa continue to evolve, engaging in such internal processes is crucial for their viability and relevance. The ADC’s move towards a more inclusive and participatory approach to its internal elections reflects a broader trend towards democratization within political parties.

The upcoming congresses and national convention will be pivotal in shaping the party’s trajectory, providing a platform for members to contribute to decision-making processes and elect representatives who will steer the party’s future course. As the ADC moves forward with these internal processes, the focus will be on how effectively it can mobilize its base and capitalize on the momentum generated by this nationwide membership drive.
