Gov Alia nominates new BSIEC member Jiminbee Ashwe

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has nominated Jerry Jiminbee Ashwe to serve as a member of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), according to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula. Ashwe, a native of Gwer‑West Local Government Area, is slated to represent the Ichongo‑Tiev constituency—covering Lobi and Gwer—on the commission, filling the vacancy left by the late Hon. Aikieghe Deva.

Ashwe holds a Master of Public Administration degree and has a solid background in administration. He is currently the Administration and Personnel Manager at the New Nigeria Timber Company (NNTC) and previously served as a Personnel Assistant with the Benue State Teaching Service Board. His experience is expected to add value to the BSIEC, which is responsible for conducting local government elections in Benue State.

The nomination has been forwarded to the Benue State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. This step is crucial to ensure the commission has the necessary personnel to carry out its duties effectively. Once confirmed, Ashwe’s appointment will bring the BSIEC closer to being fully constituted, enabling it to perform its functions without interruption.

As Benue State’s electoral process continues to evolve, the role of the BSIEC remains critical. The commission’s ability to conduct free and fair elections is essential for the state’s democratic development, and Ashwe’s potential confirmation will contribute to achieving that goal. The next stage in the process is the House of Assembly’s screening and confirmation of his appointment.
