Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced a Christmas bonus of N150,000 for every civil servant in the state, underscoring his administration’s commitment to improving their welfare despite dwindling state revenue over the past year. The announcement was made during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki on Sunday.

Regarding the upcoming local government elections, Governor Nwifuru said he has not endorsed any candidate and pledged a fair, level playing field for all aspirants. He emphasized that the will of the people must prevail, allowing voters to choose their representatives without interference. He also reiterated his directive that political appointees who wish to contest must resign in accordance with electoral guidelines.

The governor also addressed rumors about the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover, a major project of his administration. He acknowledged the complexity and rigor of the undertaking, which aims to give the state a facelift upon completion. Expressing concern over social‑media criticism, he stressed that the administration is taking deliberate steps to ensure Ebonyi is recognized for its advanced, modern infrastructure. He noted that the project is not being funded from an abundance of money but is intended to leave a lasting legacy.

These announcements come as Ebonyi State continues to navigate economic challenges. Despite the fiscal constraints, Governor Nwifuru’s administration remains committed to investing in civil servants’ welfare and developing the state’s infrastructure. The local government elections are expected to take place soon, and the governor’s promise of a fair, transparent process is being closely watched. As these initiatives move forward, their impact on citizens and the overall development of Ebonyi State will become clearer.
