The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu, has expressed support for any political movement that aims to bring development to the South-East region. Speaking to journalists at the ADC secretariat in Awka, Nwosu stated that he is open to collaborating with other parties to achieve this goal.
Nwosu also addressed concerns about former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, not fully identifying with the ADC. He clarified that Obi remains a member of the ADC coalition, which comprises several parties, including the Labour Party. According to Nwosu, positions were shared among coalition members, with the Labour Party occupying a key position, currently held by a nominee of Mr. Peter Obi.
The ADC candidate explained that the coalition includes major parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), with each party holding significant positions. He emphasized that Obi’s Labour Party is an integral part of the coalition, with Hon. Chinedu Idigo serving as the National Organizing Secretary, appointed by Obi himself.
When asked about the possibility of Obi taking a running mate position, Nwosu declined to offer advice, stating that political decisions are personal and should be made by the individual. However, he emphasized the need for the South-East region to come together and strategize to improve its economic situation. Nwosu noted that the region’s economy is currently valued at less than $100 billion, while Lagos State alone controls over $262 billion.
Nwosu’s comments highlight the importance of political collaboration and economic development in the South-East region. As the region seeks to improve its economic prospects, Nwosu’s support for a unified political movement could be a significant step towards achieving this goal. With the ADC and other parties working together, the region may be able to address its economic challenges and increase its influence in national politics.
