We will immortalise Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi - Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani announced plans to establish a foundation in honor of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on 27 November. The foundation will promote inter‑religious harmony, a cause the Sheikh championed throughout his life. Governor Sani made the commitment during a condolence visit to the Sheikh’s family in Bauchi, leading a 30‑member delegation.

The governor said the Kaduna State Government will form a committee that includes the Sheikh’s family members, students and other stakeholders to define the foundation’s structure and activities. Although Sheikh Bauchi hailed from Bauchi State, Governor Sani emphasized that Kaduna State will play a significant role in preserving his legacy because of his contributions to Islam, good governance and peaceful coexistence.

Governor Sani recalled his close relationship with the late Sheikh, noting that he often sought the scholar’s counsel on various matters and valued his advice. He pledged to continue the Sheikh’s efforts to promote unity among Muslims and followers of other religions, not only in Kaduna but across the country.

Deputy Governor Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jatau explained that Governor Sani was on an official assignment in China when the Sheikh passed away, but promptly offered condolences to Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed. A special committee in Kaduna was also formed to receive condolences from the Sheikh’s students and well‑wishers.

The Sheikh’s son, Khalifa Sayyid Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi, expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for his consistent respect and support, including a promise to rebuild the family home where the late Sheikh grew up. The delegation included notable figures such as Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Yusuf Dahiru Liman and representatives from various states and Islamic organizations.

The establishment of the foundation underscores Sheikh Bauchi’s legacy in fostering inter‑religious harmony and peaceful coexistence. As the committee finalizes the foundation’s details, it is expected to continue the Sheikh’s work, promote unity and implement his planned initiatives, reflecting both the impact of his teachings and Governor Sani’s commitment to upholding his values.
