Local farmers across the country congratulated President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Saturday for his victory in the recently concluded presidential election. They also seized the moment to declare their readiness for the agricultural revolution promised in his “Renewed Hope” manifesto.
Tinubu secured 8,794,726 votes, defeating his closest rivals—Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 6,984,520 votes, and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, who garnered 6,101,533 votes.
Speaking to journalists at a town hall in Abuja, Bello Abubakar, Zonal Coordinator (North‑West) of the Agro Commodities Directorate of the APC presidential campaign council, explained that Tinubu’s focus on agriculture during the campaign motivated millions of farmers to vote for him. “Their emphasis on agriculture from day one has encouraged and mobilised farmers in their millions to support the ticket, and we are pleased to have won decisively,” he said. “We are ready for the incoming ‘agbado and cassava’ revolution that he promised. The greatness of this country lies in the farm fields of rural Nigeria.”
Abubakar also extended sincere gratitude to Nigerian farmers who turned out en‑mass, voting for the Asiwaju/Shettima ticket because they believe the renewed hope manifesto offers a clear pathway to peace, unity, and sustainable development. “We pray that the farmers’ mandate will never be truncated or stolen. Let us be clear: this mandate is a trust based on their proven records in Lagos and Borno States, their excellent administrative prowess over the years, and sustained nationalism,” he added.
Finally, the farmer urged Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other aggrieved candidates who lost in Saturday’s poll to pursue legal avenues to air their grievances.
