2027: No joint ticket discussion between Atiku, Obi - Yunusa Tanko

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has accused the Nigerian government of deliberately undermining democracy. In an interview with Arise Television, Tanko called on the international community to intervene, warning that the erosion of democracy in Nigeria could have far‑reaching consequences. As the most populous Black nation in the world, Nigeria plays a pivotal role in the region, and any threat to its democratic system could ripple across neighboring countries.

Tanko emphasized that the current administration is repeating past mistakes instead of learning from them and improving the system. While acknowledging that democracy is widely regarded as the best form of government, he noted that governance in Nigeria is often marred by unacceptable practices. He argued that the majority of officials should be working to strengthen democracy rather than undermine it.

His comments come amid ongoing concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria, which has faced a series of challenges, including electoral disputes and allegations of government overreach. The international community has been urged to pay closer attention, as some observers argue that the country’s democratic institutions are under threat. Although the Nigerian government has not responded to Tanko’s allegations, the issue is likely to remain a topic of discussion in the coming days.

As Nigeria navigates these democratic challenges, the world will be watching closely to see how the situation develops. The potential consequences of a decline in democracy are significant, and it remains to be seen how the government and other stakeholders will respond to these concerns.
