Accord Party Affirms Legitimacy of Osun Governorship Primary

The Accord Party has confirmed that it conducted a lawful primary election in Osun State on December 10, 2025, in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022. According to the party’s National Treasurer, Chief Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen, the primary election was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and featured Governor Ademola Adeleke as the sole aspirant for the governorship seat.

At a press briefing in Minna, Salaudeen disclosed that the party conducted a full election with 150 accredited delegates, resulting in Adeleke securing 145 valid votes, while five ballots were voided due to incorrect thumb printing. The process was reportedly transparent, with INEC, the media, observers, and security agents in attendance. As the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Salaudeen declared Adeleke the winner of the primary election.

Salaudeen rejected a parallel election organized by individuals he described as expelled members of the party in 2024, alleging that this was a destabilization effort backed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. He emphasized that the Accord Party is united under the leadership of Barr. Maxwell Ngbudem and the National Secretary, Hon. Adebukola Abiola Ajaja, and does not have factions.

The party’s position is that the expelled members, who conducted their own election without the knowledge of INEC or the law, are being sponsored by the APC to cause confusion and destabilize the party in Osun State. In support of the party’s leadership, the North Central Zone of the Accord Party held a meeting on December 14, 2025, where they affirmed and gave a vote of confidence to the party’s leadership.

The confirmation of the lawful primary election is significant, as it reinforces the party’s commitment to democratic processes and the rule of law. The development is also expected to have implications for the political landscape in Osun State, particularly in the lead-up to future elections. With the Accord Party’s leadership and electoral processes now clarified, the party can focus on its preparations for the upcoming elections, with Governor Adeleke as its candidate for the governorship seat.
