PDP Slams Governor Over Fatal Convoy Accident

BREAKING: Appeal Court affirms Aiyedatiwa's election as Ondo Governor

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the death of a young man who was allegedly struck by the governor’s convoy. The incident occurred during the governor’s thank-you tour of communities in Akoko South-West Local Government, where the victim, Good Emiju, was reportedly knocked down at Oka-Akoko.

According to the PDP, the deceased was initially taken to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, but due to the facility’s deplorable state, he was transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where he was pronounced dead. The party has expressed concern over the hurried burial of the deceased and is demanding a transparent explanation from the state government.

The PDP’s Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, stated that the governor’s silence on the incident is unacceptable, insensitive, and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family. Ajayi emphasized that the public deserves to know the facts surrounding the incident and the circumstances that led to the loss of life.

However, Governor Aiyedatiwa has denied any involvement of his convoy in the incident. Through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor stated that his convoy was not responsible for the accident and that no such incident occurred during the thank-you tour across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The controversy surrounding the incident has sparked concerns about government accountability and transparency. The PDP’s criticism highlights the need for the state government to provide a clear explanation and take responsibility for the actions of its officials. As the investigation into the incident continues, the public awaits a thorough and transparent account of the events that led to the tragic loss of life. The Ondo State government’s response to the incident will be closely watched, and it remains to be seen how the matter will be resolved.
