Rivers Governor Fubara Denies PDP Membership

Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has revealed that he was never a true member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party under which he rose to power. Fubara made this disclosure while addressing journalists after visiting the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday night, following his recent defection to the APC.

The governor attributed 90 percent of the political challenges he faced to the PDP, distancing himself from the party’s internal dynamics. He described his previous association with the PDP as superficial, stating that he was merely present but not actively involved in the party’s affairs. Fubara likened his situation to being on the “balcony” rather than inside the house, implying a lack of genuine engagement with the party.

Fubara’s visit to the APC National Secretariat was aimed at familiarizing himself with the party’s structure and leadership. He emphasized the importance of understanding the party’s operations and meeting its members before fully integrating into the party. This move is seen as a strategic step towards consolidating his position within the APC, following his recent defection.

The governor’s decision to join the APC has significant implications for the political landscape in Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole. As Fubara navigates his new political environment, his actions and statements will be closely watched by political observers and analysts. The APC, having gained a high-profile defector, will likely seek to leverage this development to strengthen its position in the state and nationally.

Fubara’s comments about his past affiliation with the PDP and his current move to the APC provide insight into the complexities of Nigerian politics, where party loyalty and alliances can shift rapidly. As the country approaches future elections, the dynamics of party politics are expected to remain a key focus of attention. For now, Fubara’s integration into the APC and his efforts to build relationships within the party will be closely monitored, with potential implications for the state’s political future.
