The Delta State Police Command has convened a strategic security meeting with representatives from public and private schools across the state, aiming to bolster public safety and protect educational institutions. The gathering, directed by Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alongside ACP George Efeizomor, Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, and key education stakeholders.
The meeting, which drew 62 school heads and teachers, focused on reinforcing school safety measures in response to recent student abduction cases reported in parts of the country. Discussions centered on key issues such as perimeter fencing, surveillance camera installation, engagement of local vigilantes, and enhanced collaboration between schools and security agencies. Additionally, concerns like parental interference and the misuse of mobile phones during school hours were addressed.
ACP George Efeizomor assured participants of sustained police support, urging school administrators to maintain direct communication with their respective Divisional Police Officers and area commanders. Emergency control room numbers were also shared to facilitate prompt reporting and rapid response. Representing CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, highlighting the deployment of adequate security personnel, intelligence-led patrols, and rapid response mechanisms across the state, particularly around schools, during the Ember Months.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated that the state remains relatively peaceful, calling on school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to continue supporting security efforts to safeguard students, teachers, and school facilities. This collaborative approach underscores the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a secure environment for educational institutions. By working together, the Command and stakeholders aim to prevent potential security breaches and ensure the well-being of students and staff. The meeting’s outcome is expected to contribute to the ongoing efforts to consolidate public safety and protect educational institutions in Delta State.
