Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has signed the 2026 appropriation bill into law, totaling N871.3 billion, after it was approved by the state’s legislative assembly. The governor initially proposed a budget of N861.3 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, which was presented to the legislature on 4 December. Following deliberations, the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation recommended a revised estimate of N871.337 billion, citing significant improvements in the revenue profile of most ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
Committee Chairman Rilwanu Na‑Gambo explained that all MDAs appeared before the committee to defend their proposals, leading to an additional allocation of N8 billion for capital expenditure to the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs and N2 billion for recurrent expenditure to the Zamfara House of Assembly. The approved budget prioritises key sectors—including security, agriculture, health, education and infrastructure—in line with Governor Lawal’s strategic priorities.
Speaker Bilyaminu Isma’il noted that the budget is designed to meet the needs of citizens at the local‑government level while promoting equity and inclusion across sectors. The signing ceremony was attended by top officials, including Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mumini and Speaker Isma’il. The enactment of the 2026 appropriation bill marks a significant step toward addressing the state’s development needs and fostering economic growth. With the budget now law, Zamfara can proceed with its development plans, allocating funds to key sectors to improve the lives of its citizens and promote prosperity.
