'No Plateau LGA under bandits' control' - Gov Mutfwang

The North‑Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has thanked Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for defecting to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party. His defection was confirmed by APC national chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda at the party’s 14th national caucus meeting in Abuja. According to the Forum, Governor Mutfwang has instructed his aides to join him in the APC, describing the move as “historic” and “strategic.” The region now counts six APC governors.

The Forum had been campaigning for Mutfwang’s entry into the APC since April 2024, highlighting his achievements in office and the potential for greater success within a stable political platform. It believes his defection will benefit not only Plateau State but the entire North‑Central region, and it has pledged full support while urging stakeholders to rally behind the governor.

In addition, the Forum reiterated its commitment to deliver six million votes for President Bola Tinubu’s re‑election in 2027, noting that the goal is now on track now that all states in the region are aligned with the APC. The Forum thanked President Tinubu for providing the leadership that facilitated Mutfwang’s defection, viewing the development as a significant shift in the region’s political landscape.

Recruitment efforts began in April 2024 with a formal invitation and subsequent meetings with party leaders in Plateau State. Although some APC leaders in Plateau initially opposed the move, the Forum argued that their resistance was driven by selfish interests rather than the party’s well‑being. It also accused national chairman Yilwatda of attempting to block Mutfwang’s entry, allegedly because of his own gubernatorial ambitions for 2027.

With Mutfwang’s defection now official, the North‑Central APC Forum is poised to leverage the development to strengthen the party’s position in the region. As the 2027 elections approach, the Forum’s pledge to deliver six million votes for President Tinubu will be closely watched, and Mutfwang’s role in the APC is expected to be a key factor in the party’s fortunes in the North‑Central zone.
