Jigawa Public Officers Urged to Submit Asset Declarations

The Code of Conduct Bureau in Jigawa State has issued a reminder to public officers and political office holders to submit their completed assets declaration forms in person. This directive is aimed at ensuring compliance with the constitutional requirements for asset declaration. According to a statement signed by the Jigawa State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Sani Ibrahim Bayero, public office holders are required to submit their documents at the Bureau’s office located at the Federal Government Secretariat in Dutse.

The reminder is in line with the Bureau’s statutory responsibilities as outlined in Paragraph 3 of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended. The statement emphasizes that submitting assets declaration forms to any office outside the Code of Conduct Bureau is a breach of the Constitution. The Bureau has urged all affected officers to comply with the directive to avoid sanctions, stressing that personal submission ensures transparency, accountability, and proper documentation of declared assets.

The Code of Conduct Bureau is tasked with promoting integrity in the public service, and this move is seen as a step towards upholding good governance and adherence to constitutional provisions. By submitting their assets declaration forms in person, public officers can demonstrate their commitment to transparency and accountability. The Bureau’s efforts aim to prevent corruption and ensure that public officers are held to high standards of integrity.

The Jigawa State Director’s statement reaffirms the Bureau’s commitment to promoting good governance and adherence to constitutional provisions. The move is also expected to promote a culture of transparency and accountability among public officers, which is essential for building trust in the public service. As the Bureau continues to work towards upholding integrity in the public service, it is likely that similar reminders will be issued to ensure compliance with asset declaration requirements.

In the context of Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts, the Code of Conduct Bureau plays a crucial role in promoting transparency and accountability among public officers. The asset declaration requirement is an important tool for preventing corruption and ensuring that public officers are held to high standards of integrity. By complying with the directive, public officers can demonstrate their commitment to good governance and transparency, which is essential for building trust in the public service.
