Professor Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states, has died. A native of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, he passed away on Friday at his residence. Raji was a Professor of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Ibadan, where he enjoyed a distinguished academic career. His tenure as REC in the three states was marked by a steadfast commitment to free and fair elections, and he served in that capacity at different times, bringing his expertise to the electoral process.
The funeral rites were conducted in accordance with Islamic tradition. The Janazah prayer took place at 11:05 a.m. in the Ogbomoso Central Mosque, led by Chief Imam Dr. Teliat Yunus Ayilara, and was attended by family, friends, and colleagues who gathered to pay their respects. After the prayer, the body was interred at the Muslim Cemetery in Okin‑Apa at approximately 12:10 p.m., with the burial coordinated by Professor Ibrahim Olatunde Uthman, Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan. The solemn occasion was attended by mourners who bid farewell to the respected academic and public servant.
Raji’s passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and the academic community. His contributions to agricultural and environmental engineering, as well as his service to the nation as a REC, will be remembered.
