The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pledged to operate in accordance with the rule of law, unity, and internal discipline under the leadership of its newly approved caretaker committee. The committee’s appointment was recently ratified by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.

In a press conference held in Abuja, committee chairman Jungudo Mohammed expressed gratitude to the NWC faction, as well as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and members of the party’s National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, for their roles in promoting stability within the party. Mohammed emphasized that the caretaker committee will adhere strictly to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law in carrying out its duties.

The committee chairman stressed that legitimacy within the party can only be achieved through adherence to established laws and the party’s constitution, rather than through meetings with influential party members. “Legitimacy can only be derived from strict compliance with extant laws, adherence to the constitution of the party, and obedience to valid court orders,” he stated.

Mohammed assured party members that the committee will carry out its responsibilities without fear or intimidation, focusing on restoring unity, discipline, and order within the PDP in Bauchi State. He called on party members to cooperate fully with the caretaker committee, and urged occupants of PDP secretariats across the state to comply with directives from the party’s national leadership.

The committee chairman also appealed to members who had left or were considering leaving the party due to grievances to reconsider their decision, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to fairness, equity, inclusiveness, unity, and justice. The caretaker committee’s approval comes as the party seeks to strengthen its presence in Bauchi State, with the committee’s leadership pledging to work towards the collective interest of the party and the people of the state.

The development is expected to have significant implications for the PDP’s activities in Bauchi State, as the party prepares for future elections. With the caretaker committee’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting unity, the party is poised to move forward in a positive direction. As the committee begins its work, party members and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the new leadership will shape the party’s trajectory in the state.
