The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has formed a caretaker executive committee to manage the party’s affairs until a new leadership is formally elected. This interim arrangement is intended to stabilize the party and prepare it for the 2027 general elections.
David Lawal Babachir, the ADC’s North East Zonal Vice Chairman, explained that stakeholders decided to constitute the interim team to ensure stability and compliance with the party’s constitution. Babachir, who previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Muhammadu Buhari, said the new structure received approval from the National Working Committee after thorough consultation and adherence to constitutional requirements. He reaffirmed the legitimacy of the leadership, warning that indiscipline or defiance would not be tolerated.
National Chairman Senator David Mark has also reiterated the party’s commitment to its constitution, stating that anyone opposed to its guiding principles “has no place in the ADC.” Babachir called for harmony among members, noting that criticism is a natural part of politics but should not undermine character or dedication to the party.
The interim chairman, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, thanked party leaders for their confidence and pledged to unite the ADC. A former federal lawmaker and one‑time Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Dasin announced plans to prioritize women and youth participation, reserving 60 % of elective positions in upcoming congresses for these groups. Describing his emergence as “a child of necessity,” he urged aggrieved members to support the new leadership and promised that future state congresses would be transparent, fair, and credible.
The establishment of the caretaker executive committee is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing the ADC and gearing up for upcoming elections. With the new interim leadership in place, the party is expected to focus on rebuilding and strengthening its structure in Adamawa State.
