The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pledged to operate under the rule of law, unity and internal discipline, guided by its newly approved caretaker committee. The committee’s appointment was recently ratified by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.

At a press conference in Abuja, caretaker committee chairman Jungudo Mohammed thanked the NWC faction, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and members of the party’s National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees for their roles in promoting stability within the PDP. He emphasized that the caretaker committee will adhere strictly to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law in carrying out its duties.

Mohammed stressed that legitimacy within the party can only be achieved through compliance with established laws, the party’s constitution and valid court orders, not through meetings with influential party members. “Legitimacy can only be derived from strict compliance with extant laws, adherence to the constitution of the party, and obedience to valid court orders,” he said.

Assuring party members that the committee will act without fear or intimidation, Mohammed pledged to restore unity, discipline and order within the PDP in Bauchi State. He called on members to cooperate fully with the caretaker committee and urged occupants of PDP secretariats across the state to follow directives from the national leadership.

The chairman also appealed to members who had left or were considering leaving the party because of grievances to reconsider their decisions, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to fairness, equity, inclusiveness, unity and justice. The approval of the caretaker committee comes as the PDP seeks to strengthen its presence in Bauchi State, with its leaders pledging to work toward the collective interest of the party and the people of the state.

This development is expected to have significant implications for the PDP’s activities in Bauchi as the party prepares for future elections. With the caretaker committee’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting unity, the party is poised to move forward in a positive direction, and party members and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the new leadership shapes the party’s trajectory in the state.
