NTAC funding boost urged for South-South cooperation

The Nigerian government has been urged to increase support for the Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), a agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to enhance its financial resources and promote foreign policy and South-South cooperation.

According to Edwin Olorunfemi, a foreign affairs analyst and Executive Director of the New Era for Sustainable Leadership and Accountability Initiative (NESLAI), NTAC has made significant contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and the strengthening of South-South cooperation. The agency’s programs, which involve the deployment of skilled Nigerian professionals, have improved human capacity development across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.

Through its efforts, NTAC has projected Nigeria’s values, competence, and goodwill, building enduring relationships rooted in solidarity, cooperation, and shared development aspirations. Olorunfemi noted that NTAC has proven its value through its impact, service, and results, and that supporting the agency is essential for sustaining Nigeria’s voice, leadership, and positive footprint in the global community.

The call for increased support comes as NTAC continues to play a vital role in promoting Nigeria’s foreign policy and cooperation with other countries. By providing financial assistance to the agency, the government can help to strengthen its programs and initiatives, ultimately enhancing the country’s reputation and influence on the international stage.

The importance of NTAC’s work cannot be overstated, as it has helped to establish Nigeria as a key player in regional and global affairs. The agency’s focus on human capacity development, technical assistance, and cooperation has yielded positive results, and its continued support is crucial for maintaining momentum and achieving long-term goals.

In order to build on the successes of NTAC, the government should prioritize funding for the agency, ensuring that it has the resources needed to carry out its mandate effectively. By doing so, Nigeria can continue to promote its interests, values, and expertise, while also contributing to the development of other countries and regions. Ultimately, a strong and well-supported NTAC is essential for advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and consolidating its position as a leader in international cooperation.
