The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has levied allegations against Governor Ademola Adeleke, claiming he is using proxies to launch attacks on the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. This accusation was made by the state chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement released on Sunday in Osogbo. According to Lawal, Governor Adeleke and his supporters have become increasingly aggressive due to their perceived disadvantaged position in the state’s political landscape.
Lawal stated that the APC has observed a coordinated effort by Adeleke and his supporters to sponsor criticism or directly attack the party’s leaders, including former Governor Oyetola, now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and governorship candidate Oyebamiji. He alleged that the governor’s camp is experiencing significant distress due to the failure of the Adeleke-led administration, which Lawal attributed to a lack of planning.
In response to the allegations, the Osun Accord Party chairman, Victor Akande, described the APC’s attacks as a sign of desperation. Akande listed the achievements of the Adeleke administration, comparing them to the period of APC governance in the state. He stated that the frustration and lies emanating from the APC are symptoms of weakness, rather than strength.
The allegations and counter-allegations come as the political landscape in Osun State continues to evolve. The APC recently held a consensus primary election, where Oyebamiji emerged as the party’s governorship candidate.
