The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formed a caretaker committee to oversee its affairs in Zamfara State, following approval from the National Working Committee. Chaired by Hassan Muhammad Daudawa, the committee will manage the party’s activities in accordance with its constitution. Its members include Shehu S. Fulani, Rabiu Illele Bakura, Musa Mallaha, Sani Lasisi Kaura, Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Makkah, and Muhammad Danbuba, who will serve as secretary.

The caretaker committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure stability and effective administration in the state during a transitional period expected to last no more than 90 days, or until a new state executive committee is elected. The National Working Committee has urged all PDP members in Zamfara to cooperate fully with the caretaker committee to achieve this goal. The establishment of the committee is in line with Section 21(2)(a‑b) of the party’s constitution, which allows such measures in exceptional circumstances, and is intended to maintain order and continuity within the state chapter.

The PDP, one of Nigeria’s major political parties, is closely watched by the public and other stakeholders. Its national leadership has been working to strengthen structures and processes, especially in states where the party has a significant presence. In Zamfara, the caretaker committee’s appointment is seen as a crucial step toward restoring stability and cohesion. Its success will depend on effective collaboration with party members and stakeholders, as well as its ability to address the challenges facing the party in the state.

As the caretaker committee begins its work, the national leadership will monitor its progress closely. The outcome will affect not only the party’s performance in Zamfara but also its overall strength and competitiveness in Nigerian politics. With a tenure limited to 90 days, the focus will be on ensuring a smooth transition and the eventual election of a new state executive committee.
