The proposed budget allocates 65.95% of its total size to capital expenditure, with the remaining 34.02% earmarked for recurrent expenses, including support for the poor and workers’ welfare.
The Governor emphasized that the budget will focus on completing ongoing capital projects and initiating new ones that align with the state’s strategic needs. He noted that the plan is built around a national economic outlook, which includes an oil price of $64.85, daily oil production estimates of 1.84 million barrels per day, an exchange rate of N1,400 per US dollar, and a GDP growth rate of 4.68%.
According to the Governor, the budget prioritizes economic affairs, with 26.46% of the allocation dedicated to this sector. He also announced plans to implement a new Teachers Salary Allowance in 2026 to support educators and complement infrastructure upgrades in the health and education sectors. Additionally, the state will invest in the Alfalfa Estate to reduce herder-farmer clashes, support food security, and empower thousands of people in the value chain.
The Governor highlighted the administration’s achievements in the outgoing year, including the completion of 38 roads, 29 interlock access lanes, and significant milestones in key projects such as the Innovation Hub, Kwara Hotel, and International Conference Centre. He also noted that the state has made progress in education, water, and health sectors, with the delivery of two campuses of the Kwara State University and the commencement of construction activities in the Kwara Smart City.
Speaker of the House Salihu Yakubu-Danladi commended the Governor for his respect for the principle of separation of power, transparency, and dedication to duties. He assured that the House will give the proposal urgent attention, engage with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, and ensure that the outcome reflects the state’s priorities.
The budget presentation was attended by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, cabinet members, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. The Governor urged the House to expedite legislative action on the budget, emphasizing its significance for the administration’s legacy and the state’s development.
