The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled its chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, after a meeting of the APC State Caretaker Committee at the party secretariat on Monday. The committee also confirmed the suspension of State Special Leader Dr. Juliet Ebuo Diwa. According to the committee’s Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Edem Inyang, Eba’s expulsion resulted from a breach of the party’s constitution. The party invoked Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution, which provides that any member who initiates legal action against the party or its officers without first exhausting internal dispute‑resolution mechanisms will be automatically expelled. The motion to apply this provision was moved by the party’s Vice Chairman for the Central Senatorial District, Dr. Abubakar Efoli, and seconded by the Youth Leader (North), Dr. Joseph Idagu Ogar. The committee affirmed Eba’s expulsion, noting that no appeal will be entertained unless the court action is withdrawn.
The committee also upheld the suspension of Dr. Diwa for alleged misconduct at the ward level. The suspension followed a petition by APC chairman in Boki LGA, Kelvin Njong, who claimed Diwa assaulted ward chairman James Abang. Diwa’s suspension will remain in force pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee investigation.
These actions highlight ongoing internal conflicts within the APC and are likely to have significant implications for the party’s leadership and structure. As the party navigates these challenges, the impact on its overall direction and effectiveness remains uncertain. The APC, one of the country’s major political parties, sees its internal dynamics influencing the broader political landscape. Managing internal conflicts and adhering to its constitution will be crucial for maintaining stability and credibility, and the situation is expected to attract increased scrutiny from members, supporters, and the wider public.
