Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has signed the ₦892 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law. The budget de‑emphasises consumption and prioritises production, aiming to reduce the state’s reliance on federal allocations and promote sustainable growth.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Governor Makinde stressed that “production must come before consumption” to expand the state’s economy. He highlighted the administration’s efforts over the past six years to improve budget performance, noting a significant rise in implementation rates. The governor added that the state may present a supplementary budget if a financial surplus emerges or if ongoing landmark projects deliver positive results.

The 2026 budget is designed to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure and enhance citizens’ quality of life. Makinde thanked stakeholders—including the Oyo State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, labour unions and residents—for consistently putting the state’s interests first.

Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, praised the governor’s achievements in worker recruitment and pledged lawmakers’ support for policies and programmes that foster economic growth and infrastructure development. Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof Musibau Babatunde, said the budget will focus on productive, transformational projects intended to turn the state into a global economic landmark.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included former governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade. With the 2026 budget now signed, the Oyo State government aims to maintain a realistic budgeting process and achieve improved performance, ultimately benefiting residents. Successful implementation will depend on continued support and collaboration from all stakeholders.
