The Accord Party has reaffirmed its focus on the upcoming elections, including the governorship polls in Osun State and Ekiti State, as well as the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections. The party is also gearing up for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, asserted that Accord remains the most stable and united political party in Nigeria, with no factions. He addressed recent claims by former presidential candidate Prof. Christopher Imumolen, who alleged that he was the authentic National Chairman despite being expelled in November 2024 for alleged gross misconduct and anti‑party activities. Mgbudem dismissed Imumolen’s assertions as an attempt to cause confusion and disaffection, noting that such tactics are alien to Accord’s values as a credible democratic platform.
Mgbudem emphasized that the party’s growth and popularity have accelerated since the joining of Senator Ademola Adeleke and his supporters, making Accord a key player in the country’s democratic landscape. According to the chairman, Adeleke’s influence has attracted thousands of Nigerians to the party, placing it at the forefront of the democratic process.
Describing Imumolen’s attempts to claim leadership as a “mirage” and an “insult to the sensibilities of the good people of Osun State,” Mgbudem reiterated that the party will not engage with expelled members or “political jobbers” seeking relevance. Instead, Accord will concentrate on its electoral goals, aiming to win the forthcoming elections in Osun, Ekiti, and the FCT Area Council polls, while also preparing for the 2027 general election.
The party’s stance is intended to reassure supporters and the public of its stability and commitment to the democratic process. With the elections approaching, Accord’s ability to maintain unity and focus will be crucial to its bid for a significant impact in Nigerian politics.
