The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to strengthen its presence in Oyo State by appointing a Caretaker Committee to manage the party’s affairs there. The National Working Committee (NWC) approved the establishment of the committee, as announced by Umar Bature, the PDP’s National Organising Secretary.

The committee will be chaired by Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, with Dr. Biola Olanipekun serving as Secretary. Their mandate is to oversee the party’s activities in Oyo State for a period not exceeding 30 days, in accordance with the party’s constitution. The tenure begins on 24 December 2025. Other members include Mr. Adio Dauda Tolani, Hon. Ali Hammed Okesola, Prince Adewale Lukuman Adewale, and several additional party officials.

The appointment follows Section 21(2)(a‑b) of the PDP constitution, which authorises the NWC to install a caretaker body when necessary. This step is part of the party’s broader effort to reorganise and consolidate its state‑level structures, potentially in preparation for upcoming elections or to address internal dynamics.

By installing the Oyo State Caretaker Committee, the PDP demonstrates its commitment to grassroots organization and effective state leadership. As a major force in Nigerian politics, the party continues to navigate a complex and evolving political landscape. The performance of this committee in stabilising and advancing the PDP’s interests in Oyo State will be closely watched, reflecting the dynamic nature of party alliances, leadership changes, and strategic decisions that shape Nigeria’s political terrain.
