A former senator representing Abia Central, Chris Adighije, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Umuahia South and Abia State to vote out non-performing party executives during the 2026 party congress. Adighije made this call while addressing APC stakeholders in Umuahia South Local Government Area, emphasizing the need for party members to correct the mistakes of the past.
He specifically targeted officials who have been causing divisions and undermining the party’s interests, stating that they should not be re-elected. Adighije expressed his commitment to ensuring the total victory of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, citing the need to learn from the party’s poor performance in 2023.
Adighije warned party members against sabotage and charged them to deliver their polling units in the 2027 elections. He also predicted that if former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi were to contest the 2027 presidential election, he would again lose to President Tinubu.
Regarding his family, Adighije clarified that his daughter, Jennifer Adighije, who is the CEO of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, has no intention of leaving her position to contest the House of Representatives election in 2027.
Meanwhile, Adighije raised concerns that some party members are planning to expel him from the APC for speaking out against the party’s internal issues. Despite this, he remains committed to his mission to reform the party and ensure its success in future elections.
The 2026 party congress is expected to be a crucial turning point for the APC in Abia State, as members will have the opportunity to shape the party’s leadership and direction. With Adighije’s call to action, party members will be watching closely to see how the congress unfolds and what changes it will bring to the party’s structure and strategy. As the APC prepares for the 2027 elections, the outcome of the congress will be closely monitored by political observers and analysts.
