The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has inaugurated a 17‑member caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs. The National Working Committee (NWC) had previously approved the appointments, naming Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso as chair and Dr. Biola Olanipekun as secretary.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Ibadan, the state capital, and was attended by the National Women Leader, Professor Olanike Ogunse, who represented the National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Abdulraman Mohammed. Also present were the committee members and party chieftains from the state’s 33 local government areas.

In his remarks, Mohammed urged the committee to discharge its duties in accordance with the party’s constitution. Accepting the chairmanship, Akinoso pledged to entrench participatory democracy in membership mobilization and delegate elections, emphasizing transparency and fairness as essential to the party’s success. The committee’s mandate includes ensuring that all party processes—membership mobilization, delegate elections, and leadership representation—are conducted transparently, fairly, and in line with the constitution.

The caretaker committee is scheduled to begin its activities on 9 January 2026, as directed by the NWC. Akinoso, a former youth leader, trade unionist, and public servant with over 30 years of experience, affirmed his commitment to leading the committee to success. He assured that all stakeholders—leaders, members, women, and youths—would be consulted and their interests considered in decision‑making.

The inauguration comes ahead of the 2027 general elections. Akinoso reiterated that the party’s activities will be guided by the rule of law and the PDP constitution. He also reminded members of the dissolved Oyo State executive committee to hand over party properties to the newly constituted caretaker committee, in line with the decision taken at the PDP’s 103rd National Executive Committee meeting.
