Ogun police arrest 8 Yoruba republic agitators for breach of peace

Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight individuals for allegedly disrupting public peace and breaching traffic flow in the Sango-Ota area. The suspects, consisting of four males and four females, were reportedly protesting under the banner of the “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba” on Thursday. They include Olurotimi Ademola, 52, Adewale Sosanya, 48, Adewale Adebomojo, Toyin Gabriel, 40, Yusuf Tanimowo, 40, Opeyemi Oladotun, 31, Zara Gabriel, 22, and Ajoke Gabriel, 19.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects set bonfires, barricaded roads, and attacked police officers deployed to maintain order. Upon receiving the report, police operatives quickly responded to the scene, dispersing the group and arresting the suspects. Items recovered from the scene include a Toyota Dyna vehicle, broadcast speakers, flags, shirts, and banners displaying the group’s messages and manifesto.

The police action was taken to restore public order and ensure the free flow of traffic in the area. The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, warning that any acts capable of breaching public peace will not be tolerated. Ogunlowo also emphasized that assaults on police officers will be met with decisive action, urging the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the command’s emergency lines.

The arrested suspects are currently being investigated, and upon completion, they will be charged to court. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining public order and respecting the rule of law. The Ogun State Police Command’s swift response to the situation demonstrates its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of residents and maintaining social stability.
