The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has announced that it has reached a mutual agreement with the families of two late members of the Kano State House of Assembly regarding their replacement. According to Dr. Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the state chairman of the party, the agreement was made after extensive consultations led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s national leader.
The consultations, which took place at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, involved key party leaders and members of the bereaved families. Dungurawa stated that the discussions were productive, with all parties showing understanding and respect for one another. “We sat down, talked frankly, and agreed on the process,” he said.
The party is considering Sa’ad Aminu Sa’ad and Nabil Aliyu Daneji as potential replacements for the late lawmakers. Dungurawa expressed hope that they would uphold the standards and public service record of their late fathers. “We believe they will continue the legacy of service and dedication their fathers were known for,” he added.
The two lawmakers passed away on December 24, 2025, after battling separate illnesses, leaving vacant seats in the Kano State Assembly. The NNPP has assured that it will handle the replacement exercise in a smooth, respectful, and lawful manner, following party rules and electoral guidelines.
The party’s commitment to a seamless replacement process is crucial in maintaining stability and continuity in the state assembly. With the agreement in place, the NNPP can now proceed with the next steps, which will involve formalizing the replacement process and ensuring that the new members are sworn in according to the law.
The development is significant, as it demonstrates the party’s ability to manage internal processes and engage with stakeholders in a constructive manner. As the NNPP moves forward with the replacement exercise, it will be important to monitor the progress and ensure that the new members are able to effectively represent their constituents and contribute to the state’s legislative process.
