Nigeria Air Fares Cheapest Globally Says Air Peace Boss

The cost of domestic air travel in Nigeria has been a subject of controversy, with many complaining about high fares. However, according to Allen Onyema, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Nigerians are actually paying the cheapest domestic air fares globally. Onyema made this statement during a recent interview on Arise Television, where he addressed the public outcry over the cost of air travel in the country.

Onyema compared the cost of a one-hour flight abroad, which can exceed $400, to the prices in Nigeria, where tickets can be purchased for as low as N125,000, equivalent to less than $60. He emphasized that this disparity is a significant factor contributing to the high mortality rate of airlines in Nigeria, with over 80 airlines having ceased operations in the past.

The Air Peace boss argued that the low fares are unsustainable and are putting a strain on the aviation industry. He urged the public to understand the challenges faced by airlines and to allow them to operate without undue pressure. Onyema’s statement highlights the need for a balanced approach to air travel pricing, taking into account the operating costs and the need for airlines to remain profitable.

The Nigerian aviation industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, with an increasing number of passengers and routes. However, the industry still faces challenges, including infrastructure constraints and high operating costs. The debate over air travel pricing is likely to continue, with stakeholders seeking a balance between affordability and sustainability.

In the context of the global aviation industry, Nigeria’s domestic air travel market is unique, with a large and growing demand for air travel. The country’s aviation authorities and airlines are working to improve the industry’s infrastructure and services, while also addressing the challenges posed by low fares and high operating costs. As the industry continues to evolve, it is likely that the issue of air travel pricing will remain a key topic of discussion.
