Anthony Joshua receives best treatment after Nigeria accident

President Bola Tinubu has confirmed that Nigerian‑British boxer Anthony Joshua is receiving adequate medical attention in Nigeria after a fatal accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, released a statement on Monday detailing a phone conversation between President Tinubu and the boxing champion. During the call, Tinubu offered his condolences to Joshua over the death of two associates who lost their lives in the crash and spoke with Joshua’s mother, expressing sympathy and prayers for her.

Tinubu also contacted Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was visiting Joshua in the hospital, to ensure the boxer receives the best possible care. Earlier, while abroad, the President expressed his sympathy for Joshua and his family through a social‑media statement, praising Joshua’s courage, discipline and love for Nigeria, which have made him a national pride. He prayed for Joshua’s strength and a speedy recovery during this difficult period.

The accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway resulted in two fatalities. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, overspeeding was the cause of the crash. Joshua, a renowned heavyweight boxing champion, has long been a source of national pride for Nigeria because of his achievements in the sport.
