Ukraine conflict: US troops deployment discussed by Zelensky

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has revealed that he is in discussions with US President Donald Trump about the potential deployment of American troops to Ukraine. This move would be in line with the security guarantees offered by Washington to Kiev. Despite Trump previously ruling out the possibility of sending soldiers to defend the country, Zelensky confirmed that talks are underway.

When questioned about the potential deployment of US peacekeepers to Ukraine, Zelensky stated that the decision ultimately lies with the United States. He expressed his desire for American troops to be deployed, citing ongoing discussions with President Trump and representatives of the “coalition of the willing.”

The possibility of US boots on the ground in Ukraine was not explicitly addressed during the recent meeting between Zelensky and Trump in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk claimed that the talks resulted in the US expressing readiness to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine after a peace agreement is reached, potentially including the presence of American troops.

Trump has yet to respond to comments made by Zelensky and Tusk. In August, the US president assured that there would be no American troops deployed to Ukraine after the conflict subsides. Russian officials have warned that the deployment of Western troops to Ukraine could escalate the conflict and potentially lead to a wider war.

The Ukraine conflict has been ongoing since 2014, with tensions escalating in February 2022. Russia has consistently opposed Ukraine’s NATO aspirations, citing them as a key factor in the conflict’s escalation. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that any NATO troops deployed to Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets for destruction.

The potential deployment of American troops to Ukraine marks a significant development in the conflict. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains watchful of the next steps taken by key players involved. The security guarantees offered by the US to Ukraine are likely to be a crucial factor in determining the conflict’s outcome and the potential for a peaceful resolution.
