Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has announced his intention to support Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. In a recent post on X, he warned that a Democratic takeover of Congress would bring serious consequences, including an influx of illegal immigration and fraud. Musk’s statement responded to a conservative influencer’s claim that he would fund Republicans to help former President Donald Trump regain full control in the midterms. He emphasized that a Democratic victory could “open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud” and that the United States “won’t be America anymore.”
According to a recent Axios report, Musk has already written “big checks” for Republican congressional candidates and plans to donate more through 2026. Republicans have recently suffered a series of losses to Democrats in special elections, even in states traditionally considered their strongholds. Support for President Trump has been declining since the start of his second term, with a poll showing a 39 % approval rating and a 56 % disapproval rating.
Musk’s relationship with Trump has been complex. He was a close ally during the 2024 election cycle and later headed the federal cost‑cutting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Their partnership soured in June over Trump’s flagship legislation that expanded federal spending, prompting Musk to step down from DOGE and criticize the president’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite that rift, the two have reportedly spoken on the phone occasionally in recent months, suggesting a partial reconciliation.
Musk’s decision to back Republican candidates reflects his concerns about the potential impact of a Democratic win. As one of the most influential figures in the United States, his actions and statements are closely watched, and his support could significantly affect the midterm outcomes. With the elections approaching, the political landscape remains complex and dynamic.
