ADC unveils timetable, guidelines for 2025/2026 congresses, national convention

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a comprehensive timetable and guidelines for its congresses and national convention in the 2025/2026 political year. This move aims to strengthen internal democracy and reposition the party ahead of future elections. The guidelines, contained in a National Secretariat Circular dated December 30, 2025, and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, outline the party’s activities for the upcoming year.

The party’s activities will commence with a Board of Trustees meeting on January 5, 2025, followed by a National Executive Committee meeting on January 7, 2025. The NEC meeting will address key issues, including filling vacancies in the National Working Committee, fixing dates for membership registration and revalidation, and preparing for ward, local government, and state congresses.

According to the circular, membership registration and revalidation will take place from January 2 to January 15, 2026, followed by ward executive committee congresses on January 17. Local government congresses are scheduled for January 24, while state executive committee congresses will be held on January 31, 2026. The National Working Committee Convention is slated for February 13 to 15, 2026.

The party has also outlined guidelines for state congresses, including the composition and distribution of state executive committee members, which should reflect senatorial zones and comply with the party’s constitutional provisions. Only validly registered or revalidated members will be eligible to participate in the congresses, and state chapters must notify the National Secretariat of the dates, venues, and times of their congresses.

The ADC has emphasized the importance of transparency, credibility, and orderliness in the congresses, and has urged members and state chapters to strictly adhere to the guidelines. The party has also outlined criteria for qualification to contest for executive positions in the State Executive Committee, including attendance of secondary school and relevant experience for certain positions.

The congresses and national convention are significant steps towards strengthening the party’s internal democracy and preparing for future elections. With a clear timetable and guidelines in place, the ADC is poised to move forward with its internal processes and position itself for success in the upcoming electoral cycle.
