Nasarawa attack: Suspects arrested, manhunt ongoing - Gov Sule

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the deadly attack on the Akunza‑Ashige community in Lafia Local Government Area. He assured residents that security agencies are still pursuing other suspects linked to the incident. The assault, carried out by masked men during a traditional wedding ceremony, left three people dead and several others seriously injured. The attack occurred on 31 December 2025, when armed assailants invaded the community in the early hours of the day.

In response, the state government, together with security agencies, swiftly mobilised to restore calm. According to the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, security personnel took charge of the situation and normalcy has been restored. Ahemba said the government has put measures in place to ensure lasting peace in the affected community and across Nasarawa State, emphasizing that those responsible will be brought to justice.

The governor is also consulting widely with relevant stakeholders on key political issues, including the ongoing debate over the zoning of the governorship seat. While no final decision has been reached on whether the governorship should be zoned to the southern, northern, or western senatorial district, the governor is engaging in consultations in the overall interest of Nasarawa State. The ruling party is expected to announce its position to the public at the appropriate time.

The recent attack has raised concerns about security in the region, and the state government’s response is being closely watched. The governor’s assurance that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and that preventive measures are being implemented is seen as a positive step toward restoring peace and stability. As the investigation continues, residents of Nasarawa State await further updates on progress made to ensure their safety and security.
