The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has released a detailed timetable and set of guidelines for its congresses and national convention for the 2025/2026 political year. Intended to strengthen internal democracy and reposition the party ahead of future elections, the guidelines are contained in a National Secretariat Circular dated 30 December 2025 and signed by National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The party’s activities will begin with a Board of Trustees meeting on 5 January 2025, followed by a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on 7 January 2025. The NEC will address several key issues, including filling vacancies in the National Working Committee, fixing dates for membership registration and revalidation, and preparing for ward, local‑government and state congresses.
According to the circular, membership registration and revalidation will run from 2 to 15 January 2026. Ward executive committee congresses are scheduled for 17 January, local‑government congresses for 24 January, and state executive committee congresses for 31 January 2026. The National Working Committee Convention will take place from 13 to 15 February 2026.
The ADC has also provided specific guidelines for state congresses. The composition and distribution of state executive committee members must reflect senatorial zones and comply with the party’s constitutional provisions. Only members who are validly registered or revalidated may participate, and state chapters are required to notify the National Secretariat of the dates, venues and times of their congresses.
Emphasizing transparency, credibility and orderliness, the ADC urges members and state chapters to adhere strictly to the guidelines. The party has set qualification criteria for contesting executive positions in the State Executive Committee, including secondary‑school attendance and relevant experience for certain roles. These congresses and the national convention represent significant steps toward bolstering the party’s internal democracy and preparing for upcoming elections. With a clear timetable and guidelines in place, the ADC is positioned to advance its internal processes and aim for success in the next electoral cycle.
