APC Chieftain Condemns Wike, Basiru Verbal War

A recent verbal spat between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, has sparked concern among party stakeholders. The dispute centers on Wike’s involvement in Rivers State politics, where he has been at odds with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The APC National Secretary had publicly expressed support for Fubara, prompting Wike to respond by asking Basiru to refrain from interfering in Rivers State politics. Basiru retorted, suggesting that Wike should resign his ministerial position to focus on his perceived obsession with Rivers State affairs.

Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the APC and social media commentator, has weighed in on the matter, condemning the exchange between Wike and Basiru. In a Facebook post, Igbokwe described the altercation as “totally uncalled for and unnecessary,” stating that it serves as a distraction. He cautioned that allowing such misunderstandings to escalate can have unintended consequences.

The rift between Wike and Fubara has been ongoing, with the APC Secretary’s intervention seemingly reigniting tensions. As a key figure in the ruling party, Basiru’s comments have drawn attention to the simmering dispute. Igbokwe’s intervention highlights the need for party leaders to prioritize unity and avoid public feuds that can damage the party’s reputation.

The All Progressives Congress has been working to maintain a united front ahead of upcoming elections, making the timing of this public disagreement particularly notable. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the party will address the rift and restore cohesion among its leadership. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the APC National Secretary have yet to respond to Igbokwe’s comments, leaving the door open for further developments in this ongoing saga.
