The Situation Room of All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate Umar Bago was raided by the Niger State Police Command in Minna on Sunday. Abdulberqy Ebbo, director of digital and strategic communications for the Bago campaign, told our correspondent that police entered the building and ransacked it after receiving a tip‑off. According to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) leading the search, they had been reliably informed that officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) were inside the Situation Room thumb‑printing ballot papers ahead of Saturday’s elections in favor of the APC.
Ebbo said he received a call about the police search, rushed to the scene, and asked the DPO for an explanation. The DPO reiterated the claim that INEC staff were thumb‑printing ballots in the Situation Room. However, after completing the search, the police found no evidence of such activity. At that time, the Commissioner of Police arrived, and the individuals who had provided the false information were arrested for misleading the police.
Upon arriving, Ebbo noticed many PDP members standing nearby and realized that the report had likely originated from them. He added that the Commissioner of Police confirmed that having a Situation Room was not unusual.
Public Relations Officer Abiodun Wasiu also confirmed the arrest of two persons for providing false information and attempting to cause a breach of peace in the state. “On Sunday, around 3 p.m., we received information that some individuals were found in a building at Bosso Estate thumb‑printing ballot papers for the upcoming governorship elections,” Wasiu said. “When we entered the building and conducted a preliminary investigation, we discovered the information was false.” The informant, identified as Ndagi, and another individual were immediately detained for giving false information and attempting to incite unrest. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
