Ibadan blackout hits 22 communities from Jan 5

Residents of 22 communities in Ibadan, Oyo State, are set to experience a temporary disruption in their electricity supply. From Monday, January 5 to Friday, January 9, 2026, these areas will face a three-hour daily blackout due to ongoing road construction along Foodco Road and Idi Isin. The affected communities include Alalubosa GRA, Ogunkola, Museum, and several others, with customers in the AMI Complex, Police Headquarters, and Polo Clubs also impacted.

According to a statement by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), the blackout is necessary to facilitate the relocation of its facilities and assets in the area. The road construction project has made it essential for the distribution company to switch off some feeders for approximately three hours daily. This temporary measure will enable the safe relocation of IBEDC’s equipment, minimizing the risk of damage or disruption to the power supply.

The affected areas are primarily residential and commercial zones, with several key institutions, such as the Forestry College and Nursing Home, also impacted. The IBEDC has informed its customers of the planned outage, which is scheduled to take place from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. The company has apologized for any inconvenience this may cause and has assured its customers that the relocation work will be completed as quickly as possible.

The road construction project along Foodco Road and Idi Isin is part of the ongoing infrastructure development in Oyo State, aimed at improving the transportation network and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. While the temporary blackout may cause some disruption, it is a necessary step towards achieving the long-term goals of the project. The IBEDC has pledged to restore power supply to the affected areas as soon as the relocation work is completed, and customers can expect a return to normal service by the evening of Friday, January 9, 2026.
