The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence in the party’s ability to deliver a significant number of votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Specifically, he predicted that Plateau State will give the president one million votes. Yilwatda made this declaration at an APC stakeholders’ meeting for the Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Federal Constituency in Pankshin, Plateau State.
According to Yilwatda, the APC has strengthened its position in Plateau State since 2023, with former opposition forces now aligning with the party. He cited the collapse of opposition structures and the party’s growing dominance as key factors contributing to this development. Notably, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, commissioners, local government chairmen, and other political appointees who previously opposed the party have now joined its ranks.
The Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam area is considered a traditional stronghold of the APC, with President Tinubu having recorded some of his highest votes in the region during the 2023 presidential election. Yilwatda emphasized that the absence of stumbling blocks that hindered the party’s progress in 2023 will facilitate a stronger showing in the upcoming elections.
The APC’s growing influence in Plateau State can be attributed to the realignment of political forces and the party’s efforts to consolidate its position. As the 2027 general elections approach, the party’s ability to deliver votes will be closely watched. With the APC’s strengthened position, Plateau State is likely to play a significant role in determining the outcome of the presidential election.
In the context of Nigeria’s electoral landscape, the APC’s performance in Plateau State will be an important indicator of the party’s national strength. As the country prepares for the 2027 elections, political parties are intensifying their efforts to mobilize support and consolidate their positions. The outcome of the elections will depend on various factors, including the parties’ ability to deliver votes in key states like Plateau.
