Wike, Fubara Feud May Destroy APC

A Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Comrade Austin Okai, has stated that the ongoing rift between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, may have significant repercussions for the ruling All Progressives Congress. The dispute between Wike and Fubara recently intensified, with Wike vowing to hinder the governor’s re-election bid. Fubara, now a member of the APC, enjoys the support of several top party leaders.

The situation escalated after Wike advised party stalwarts to avoid interfering in Rivers State politics, prompting a war of words between him and the APC’s national leadership. In a recent interview on TVC News, Okai noted that the crisis may spread to other parts of the country. He emphasized that Wike’s criticism extended beyond the APC National Secretary, targeting the National Security Adviser and other key figures.

Okai observed that Rivers State has often been the epicenter of crises within ruling parties over the past decade. He suggested that the current situation could have far-reaching consequences for the APC, unless President Muhammadu Buhari intervenes and summons the political courage to address the issue. Wike’s stance appears to be driven by his declared dependence on Rivers State for his political survival, although the nature of his agreement with the president remains unclear.

The rift between Wike and Fubara has sparked a heated exchange, with Wike adopting a more forceful tone than the APC National Chairman, National Security Adviser, and even the President. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the APC will navigate this internal conflict and its potential implications for the party’s future. The developments in Rivers State are being closely watched, as they may have significant consequences for the country’s political landscape.
