Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor and APC chieftain Senator Ibikunle Amosun have entered the political fray ahead of the March 11, 2023 gubernatorial election. Amosun, who currently represents Ogun Central in the National Assembly, is actively canvassing support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Biyi Otegbeye. He led campaign rallies in Ado‑Odo/Ota, Sagamu, Ogun Waterside and other local government areas across the state.
According to a statement from ADC Campaign Council Media Director Raheem Ajayi, Amosun praised Otegbeye as the right person to steer Ogun State back onto a path of development. He lamented that the policies of the previous administration had been abandoned under the current APC government led by Governor Abiodun. “If the current government cared about continuity, by now Ogun State would have grown in leaps and bounds. But what do we see today? Retrogression. That is why I am out; that is why we must return to that path of development, that path of glory, that path of ‘we are Ogun State.’”
Amosun criticized recent infrastructure decisions, noting that a six‑lane road had been reduced to two lanes, questioning the logic behind such actions. He urged Ogun residents to vote for Otegbeye and the ADC in the upcoming election, emphasizing the need for a peaceful, orderly process. “Let’s come out in large numbers on March 11 to cast our votes for ADC and Biyi Otegbeye. On that day, let’s exercise patience and wait until the votes are counted. Don’t give room to thuggery and rigging,” he said.
In his remarks, Otegbeye pledged to create opportunities for all and to preserve the legacies of past state leaders. “I want to assure you that the legacies of our leaders in Ogun State that we point to, and are proud of, will be preserved and enhanced. We don’t want the standard to continue falling. Right now, there is no standard anymore.”
