Wike Reveals Strategy for 2027 Rivers Governorship Election

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has advised his supporters in Rivers State to be vigilant and observe the movements of key party leaders to identify his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election. Wike made this statement on Wednesday while addressing a gathering of supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The minister suggested that his supporters monitor the actions of the APC and PDP chairmen, as well as other leaders loyal to him, to determine his chosen candidate. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among his supporters, urging them to watch for cues from these leaders. Wike stated, “Watch where your council chairman is going. Watch where the PDP and APC chairman are going, anywhere you see them, that is where we are.”

Wike’s statement comes amid his previously expressed intention to prevent the re-election of Siminalayi Fubara, his estranged political godson, in 2027. The minister’s announcement has generated interest in the upcoming election, with many speculating about his preferred candidate.

In addition to his comments on the governorship election, Wike also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. He encouraged his supporters to back the president’s candidacy, highlighting the importance of stability and continuity in the government.

The developments in Rivers State are being closely watched, as the 2027 governorship election is expected to be highly contested. Wike’s influence in the state’s politics is significant, and his endorsement is likely to carry substantial weight. As the election approaches, observers will be monitoring the situation closely to see how Wike’s supporters respond to his guidance and which candidate he ultimately endorses. The outcome of the election will have significant implications for the state’s political landscape and the balance of power in the region.
