The Federal High Court released its 2023 Easter vacation schedule and roster of vacation judges on Monday. In a circular signed by Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho, the court announced that the Easter vacation will run from Friday, 31 March 2023, to Monday, 17 April 2023, in accordance with Order 46, Rule 4(b) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended). Court proceedings will resume on Tuesday, 18 April 2023, in all judicial divisions.
During the vacation, the Abuja, Lagos, and Port‑Harcourt judicial divisions will remain open to the public only for cases of extreme urgency, according to a statement sent to journalists by Assistant Director of Information Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher. The Abuja Division will handle cases from the Federal Capital Territory, the North Central, North Western, and North Eastern regions. The Lagos Division will serve the South‑Western states, while the Port‑Harcourt Division will cover the South‑South and South‑Eastern geopolitical zones.
The circular also listed the judges who will serve as vacation judges. In the Abuja Division, Justice A.R. Mohammed, Justice Donatus Okorowo, and Justice T.G. Ringim will preside. Justice A.O. Awogboro will oversee the Lagos Division, and Justice A.T. Mohammed together with Justice S.I. Mark will act as vacation judges in the Port‑Harcourt Division. As usual, vacation judges and heads of divisions are instructed to refer promptly to the Chief Judge for any matters requiring his urgent attention and directives.
The circular concluded with a wish from Chief Judge Justice John T. Tsoho, who extended “a wonderful vacation in advance” to his fellow lordships.
