Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu of Lagos State has earned the endorsement of the Muslim Rights Concern for his bid for a second term. In a statement, the group’s director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, highlighted the governor’s “giant steps” in critical areas during his first term and urged Lagosians of all religious backgrounds to support him in the nationwide governorship election on Saturday, 11 March.
Akintola praised Sanwo‑Olu’s infrastructure achievements, noting the introduction of the red and blue rail lines and the revamping of water transport through high‑capacity boats acquired by Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY). He emphasized that these projects are especially significant for a megacity like Lagos, which suffers from chronic traffic congestion. The administration also constructed more than 308 roads, including the Pen Cinema flyover, the Lekki‑Epe‑Ibeju road expansion, and the Lekki‑VGC regional road.
The governor’s handling of the COVID‑19 pandemic received commendation from the World Health Organization for its swift and effective response. In education, Akintola pointed out that Lagos offers free primary and secondary schooling, while tertiary institutions charge the lowest tuition fees in the state.
Addressing Muslim voters specifically, Akintola framed the upcoming election as a “different picture,” urging them to view a vote for Sanwo‑Olu as a vote for his mentor, President Tinubu. He highlighted that Sanwo‑Olu, a Christian, had previously instructed the issuance of a hijab circular in the state, demonstrating his inclusive stance. The director concluded by calling on all Lagos residents to turn out in large numbers to support Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu.
