The Nigerian Football Federation has resolved the financial entitlements of Super Eagles players and officials, according to Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission. This development comes after reports emerged of players threatening to boycott training and travel to Marrakech for their upcoming match against Algeria.
Dikko stated that President Bola Tinubu approved the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 budget in November 2025, which aligns the interests of the NSC, NFF, and players. He clarified that while approval and processing are distinct stages, the funds have been approved and are being released. The NSC Director-General emphasized that meetings were held with the NFF, team captain, co-captain, and senior players to agree on tournament bonuses, ensuring everyone is aware of their entitlements.
The players reportedly understood their incentives and accepted the terms before the tournament began. Dikko noted that only daily allowances were requested in cash, which have already been settled. Match bonuses have been approved and are currently being processed for payment, with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria working to ensure timely disbursement.
The Super Eagles have had a successful run so far, winning all their matches and scoring 12 goals en route to the quarter-finals. They are set to face Algeria’s Desert Foxes for a semi-final spot and are expected to depart Fès for Marrakech on Thursday. The highly anticipated match will take place at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday at 5 pm.
The resolution of the financial entitlements is a significant development, as it allows the team to focus on their upcoming match without distractions. The Nigerian team’s performance in the tournament has been impressive, and their chances of advancing to the next round are high. With the financial issues resolved, the Super Eagles can now concentrate on their game, and fans can look forward to an exciting match against Algeria.
