The Nigerian Football Federation has resolved the financial entitlements of Super Eagles players and officials, according to Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission. This development follows reports that players had threatened to boycott training and travel to Marrakech for their upcoming match against Algeria.
Dikko explained that President Bola Tinubu approved the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 budget in November 2025, aligning the interests of the NSC, NFF and the players. He clarified that while approval and processing are separate stages, the funds have been approved and are now being released. The NSC Director‑General added that meetings were held with the NFF, the team captain, co‑captain and senior players to agree on tournament bonuses, ensuring everyone understands their entitlements. The players reportedly accepted the terms before the tournament began.
According to Dikko, only daily allowances were requested in cash, and those have already been settled. Match bonuses have been approved and are currently being processed for payment, with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria working to ensure timely disbursement.
On the field, the Super Eagles have enjoyed a successful run, winning all their matches and scoring 12 goals en route to the quarter‑finals. They are set to face Algeria’s Desert Foxes for a semi‑final spot and are expected to depart Fès for Marrakech on Thursday. The highly anticipated match will take place at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The resolution of the financial entitlements is a significant development, allowing the team to focus on the upcoming match without distractions. With the financial issues settled, the Super Eagles can concentrate on their game, and fans can look forward to an exciting encounter against Algeria.
