PDP Expects Defectors to Return Except Wike’s Group

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is confident that members who left the party due to its current crisis will return, according to Emmanuel Ogidi, Chairman of the PDP South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee. Ogidi made this assertion in a recent interview on Arise News, where he discussed the party’s efforts to move forward despite its challenges. He noted that except for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his group, all other former members would find their way back to the party.

Ogidi stated that Wike and his allies had been expelled from the party, leaving no possibility for their return. He attributed the PDP’s problems to self-inflicted wounds, caused by members who have since been expelled or have chosen to leave the party. However, he expressed optimism that those who had moved to other parties or were waiting on the sidelines would eventually return to the PDP.

When asked to describe the current state of the party, Ogidi said that despite losing some members, the PDP was moving forward. He emphasized that the party’s grassroots base remained strong, which he believed would help the party recover from the challenges it faced. Ogidi also acknowledged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government had dealt a significant blow to the PDP, using Wike and his group to weaken the party. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude that the PDP had recovered from this setback.

The PDP has been working to rebuild and reposition itself after facing internal conflicts and losing some of its key members. The party’s efforts to move forward and regain its strength are crucial, especially as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve. With the PDP being one of the major opposition parties in the country, its ability to recover and unite its members will be closely watched by political observers and analysts. As the party continues to navigate its challenges, it remains to be seen how successful its efforts to rebuild and reclaim its position in Nigerian politics will be.
