Niger Seeks Revival of Illegal Mining Task Force

Niger State Commissioner of Mineral Resources, Hon. Muhammed Qasim Danjuma, has called for the reinstatement of the state’s mining task force to strengthen enforcement of mining laws and regulations. The commissioner made this appeal during a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, at the Police Headquarters in Minna.

Danjuma emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to combat illegal mining activities, which have been linked to crime and chaos in local communities. He noted that some individuals are using mining as a cover for illicit activities, and that the state is committed to putting an end to such practices. The commissioner commended the police for their efforts in maintaining law and order in the state, particularly in the metropolis.

The visit was also an opportunity for the ministry to introduce its new management team and share its vision for transforming the sector. Danjuma sought the police’s support and cooperation in achieving this goal, especially in the area of combating illegal mining. He stressed the importance of synergy between the two organizations in providing a secure environment for residents.

In response, CP Elleman expressed appreciation for the ministry’s recognition of the police’s efforts in combating crime. He assured the commissioner of improved collaboration and synergy between the two organizations, with a shared goal of maintaining peace and order in the state. Elleman also urged the ministry to provide the police with timely and credible information on illegal mining activities, enabling prompt intervention and prevention of further damage to property.

The reinstatement of the mining task force is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the challenges posed by illegal mining in Niger State. With the support of the police and other stakeholders, the state aims to create a more peaceful and secure environment, conducive to economic development and growth. The collaboration between the ministry and the police is a significant step towards achieving this goal, and its success will be closely monitored in the coming months.
